One of my favorite things about living in the Pacific Northwest is the endless adventuring. There are so many different places to explore, from beaches to forests to mountains, and they are only a couple of hours away. Each weekend we like to pick a day, pack up the girls, and go on an adventure.
This weekend we decided to take a day trip to Camano Island. Camano Island is about an hour north of Seattle and doesn’t require a ferry ride. We spent the day exploring beaches at Camano Island State Park and Cama Beach. Instead of sand, the beaches are rocky, which happens to be my favorite. They are also easy to navigate, which is a must when exploring with littles. At one of the Camano Island State Park beaches there is a beautiful field of wildflowers separating the park from the beach. I unfortunately didn’t get any pictures of the flowers because there were bees galore (normal for this time of year) and I didn’t want the girls getting stung.
The beaches weren’t crowded at all, and at some points we were the only ones in the area. Finley had a blast throwing rocks into the water and digging in the sand.
We definitely plan on going back once the weather cools down and the bees aren’t so prominent. I’ve heard you can see and hear whales on the island as well, so I would really like to experience that.
Has anyone else spent the day on Camano Island? I would love to know your must-sees and recommendations on where we should go next. Let me know in the comments below.
